Creating a better learning environment

The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts has expanded its building. More classrooms and workshops are included in the new part of the building; however, the classrooms where never set up to match the individual courses and style of work. Therefore, we got the chance to come up with a concept for our classroom that fits needs and values of design management students.

The change of the classroom should foster more group work, allow collaboration and communication, but also offer different areas to work individually. This project aims to make students feel comfortable, so they stay in school for project work and engage with others. The concept of the ideal classroom should create a better learning environment.

We worked on this project as a class and started with collective research on what cultivates learning, then we each specified in an area and did deeper research. In team meetings we discussed different concepts and used various methods to achieve our final solution. As the project was linked to our model building course, we ended up with a good set of prototypes of important touch points and a 3D model of the classroom.
